- The initiative aims to make energy renovation easy, simple and accessible for all households, offering a free technical, administrative and financial support service.
- GiDomus is being rolled out in Gironès, Pla de l’Estany, Ripollès and Garrotxa, with the ambition of being replicable across Europe and generating local employment.
This Friday marked the official presentation of GiDomus, a pioneering project that seeks to turn the Girona region into a European benchmark for residential building energy renovation. The initiative was born with the goal of making it easier and more accessible for families to renovate their homes to reduce energy consumption and costs, through a free, comprehensive support service.
The presentation event, organised by Fundació Europace and the Catalan Energy Efficiency Cluster (CEEC) and held at the Architects’ Association of Catalonia – Girona branch, brought together institutions, experts and civil society representatives.
Participants included Lluc Salellas, Mayor of Girona; Miquel Noguer, President of the Girona Provincial Council; and Sílvia Paneque, Minister for Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition.
“GiDomus is an opportunity for all families to receive the necessary and free support and advice for the renovation of their homes, but also for the region to generate local jobs and reduce emissions. It is a project with triple impact: social, economic and environmental,” explained Jordi Ayats, Director of Fundació Europace, during the presentation.
The project begins with the opening of the first GiDomus offices in Gironès, Pla de l’Estany, Ripollès and Garrotxa during October. These service points will provide citizens with information, advice and administrative support to promote renovation works such as facade insulation, climate system improvements and the installation of more efficient technologies.
Buildings account for 36% of CO₂ emissions, and their renovation is key to achieving climate goals. With GiDomus, Girona positions itself as a leading region in the energy transition, attracting investment, generating new jobs and addressing social challenges such as energy poverty. The initiative also seeks to lower barriers, create local employment, attract public and private financing and provide tangible social benefits.
“Energy renovation is key to advancing towards a more sustainable and fair society, and projects like GiDomus allow us to make it a reality from within the territory,” emphasised Francesc Ribera, Manager of the Catalan Energy Efficiency Cluster (CEEC).
