Anna Camp, Director of the Institut Català d'Energia (ICAEN), has highlighted the key role of one-stop shops in promoting energy renovation, such as those provided by GiDomus. As she explained, "one of the barriers to renovating homes is the social barrier. That is why it is essential to provide citizens with comprehensive guidance, both by raising awareness and by connecting them with local companies capable of carrying out the renovation works."
In a context shaped by the effects of climate change, buildings are playing an increasingly important role as spaces that provide protection, well-being and energy efficiency. However, Catalonia's building stock, which includes nearly 3 million homes and almost 100,000 tertiary-sector buildings, predates current energy efficiency standards, resulting in high energy consumption and significant exposure to situations of social vulnerability.
Anna Camp describes one-stop shops as "an opportunity and a key tool for renovating homes." In this regard, she noted that there are currently grant schemes that "support energy renovation", as well as financing options, and that work is underway to secure additional funding to further promote renovation and facilitate access to housing.
Through LIFE-GiDomus, work is being carried out across the Girona region to make home energy renovation easier and more accessible by providing a free technical, administrative and financial support service for citizens, homeowners' associations and professionals.
