On 15–16 May, the European GiDomus project held its General Assembly at the Hotel Vall de Bas in Olot. This strategic gathering brought together consortium members to review the progress achieved during the project’s initial months and to plan the next steps in its implementation — with a particular focus on achieving financial self-sufficiency for the OSS (One-Stop Shops) dedicated to the energy renovation of the residential housing stock in the Girona region.
During the session, a review of key managed risks was carried out, highlighting the successful onboarding and integration of new team members. Emphasis was placed on the project’s central goal: to establish a self-sustaining business model for the OSS that gradually reduces dependency on public funding by incorporating innovative private financing mechanisms.
Progress of Work Packages
Leaders of the different Work Packages shared the milestones achieved so far:
- WP1: With the financial instruments design phase now complete, the project enters the testing and operational phase of the OSS. Work is underway to integrate training materials and digital tools.
- WP2: Key performance indicators (KPIs) have been established to assess the OSS before, during, and after interventions. An automated audit module is under development. Progress is also being made on adapting protocols to embed social inclusion and gender perspectives.
- WP3: Four core financing instruments have been presented: crowdlending, Energy Savings Contracts (CAEs), pay-for-results, and sponsorship. A pilot project has been tested in Lleida, and early discussions with potential sponsors, most of them obligated parties which has shown strong interest in supporting residential CAEs in the Girona province.
- WP4 & WP5: Digital tools are being developed, legal documentation is being adapted, and agreements with local authorities for opening the first OSS are being finalised. These launches are scheduled for month 13 of the project. Agreements are already in progress in counties such as Ripollès and Pla de l’Estany.
- WP7: In terms of communication and dissemination, social media content and newsletters are being actively produced to broaden the project’s reach. Preparations are also underway for the GiDomus Launch Event, set to take place on 30 September, with plans to include representation from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and other key sectoral stakeholders.
New Advisory Bodies
A key highlight of the assembly was the proposal to establish the GiDomus Advisory Board, composed of renowned experts from entities such as the Green Building Council, Coop57, Institut Català de Finances, Unión de Créditos Inmobiliarios, and the Real Estate Services Cluster (CSIM). The creation of the Replication Board, led by Ecoserveis, is expected in the coming months.
Specialised Workshops
The meeting also featured two in-depth workshops:
- Capital Raising Workshop: Focused on integrating energy savings indicators into the pay-for-results model and clarifying how it differs from the sponsorship model.
- Capacity Building Workshop: Addressed training needs for public administration staff and large property holders, proposing tools like the "neighbourhood passport" and sharing replicable case studies.
With this assembly, the GiDomus project continues to lay the groundwork to become an innovative and holistic initiative for transforming the residential renovation sector in Catalonia — placing emphasis on social impact, energy efficiency, and economic sustainability.
